A BRIEF HISTORY OF MAKITA
Makita is one of, if not the largest manufacturer of power tools in the world with factories in Brazil, China, Romania, Dubai, Germany, the US, and the UK. The company was founded on 21st March 1915 as Makita Denski Seisakushoby Mosaburo Makita. The company's early days were selling and repairing light fixtures, motors and transformers. In 1935, they began to specialize in electric motors and even began to export them around the world. By 1938, the company had changed its name to Makita Electric Works.
A notable point in Makita’s history was the development of the first nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) battery. After 10 years of development and testing, it began the revolution of moving from corded to cordless power tools.
WHAT JOBS CAN YOU DO WITH MAKITA TOOLS?
Covering a phenomenal range of areas, Makita’s reach has extended beyond power tools to include clothing, storage, hand tools, lasers, compressors, generators, fans, radios, gardening tools, and even food chillers. With this in mind, it is possible to fully kit yourself out for any job with a Makita Kit. WHAT POWER OUTPUT DO MAKITA TOOLS USE?
Makita Tools currently operate in 4 different systems. Corded, 12V, 18V and 40V Batteries.
Makita Corded Tools
You have the standard corded tools and cordless tools but when it comes to cordless there are 3 different options that all have benefits and advantages depending on your job and access to your job.
Makita 12V Tools
The smallest of the Makita range these tools are usually more compact and output less power, the advantage being that they are lightweight and more specialized. For example, the Makita 12V pin nailer is great at getting into small gaps and finishing a job.
Makita 18V/36V Tools
This is the bread and butter, the meat of the tools, the pièce de résistance of Makita tools, with over 300 18V tools Makita has built an incredible range to get any job done, some tools also use 2x 18V batteries which will make the tool effectively 36V increasing the power of the tool.
Makita 40V/80V Tools
40V is Makita's new range, we have been fortunate enough to head down to Makita's UK office and participate in some great training, the 40V range (and 2x 40V) tools have an incredible battery life which dwarfs 12V and 18V tools. The range isn't as extensive as 18v right now but this is the future of Makita and the future looks bright.
