The vials offer measuring on horizontal and vertical planes as well as at 45°.  The aluminium plate includes a V-shaped groove to check the levelling on cylindrical shapes such as pipes.

The middle vial is shock resistant while the rubber end caps provides protection to the level in case it is dropped or knocked.
