The DTS141ZJ is a new type of cordless driver that has a high powered motor and uses a new innovative technology called 'Oil-Impulse' that is designed to replace the hammer and anvil motor that is found in an impact driver. Because of this change, the noise generated by this driver is severely reduced.
This technology, delivers 2 impacts for every rotation, so much the same as an impact driver. Yet because there is not hammer and anvil action the noise created is reduced to a measly 75dB which solves the issue of noise that concerns lots of people.
Also because of the lack of the smaller motor and lack of 'impact' action this driver creates a minimal amount of heat. Working with that along with the new brushless motor means that this driver generates barely any heat at all. Meaning that more of the power generated by the battery goes into your application and not wasted on creating heat.
All of Makita's latest Li-ion range boast 'star' protection, which is a built-in CPU chip that talks to the battery and ensures that the tool is not being pushed beyond its limits (be that driving with screws too big, or into materials that are too hard) If the chip realises that the tool or the battery are going to fail, it cuts out all power. This will ensure that your tool and battery are protected from overload.
As with all of Makita's latest range of cordless tools, the DTD148 includes a very handy battery gauge that lets you keep a close eye on your battery capacity so you'll never be caught short with no power.
