Choosing the Right SDS Max Chisel
Different tips for different materials and outcomes:
1. Flat Chisel
The all-rounder — slices concrete, strips surface beds, and clears tile or adhesive. Ideal for medium area removal.
2. Pointed Chisel
Delivers force to a single point — perfect for cracking concrete or starting break lines. Use on slab, wall or footing.
3. Gouge / Tile Chisel
Curved or wide face for floor prep, tile removal or slot carving. Reduces surface gouging and lifts adhesives clean.

SDS Max Chisel FAQs
Can I use SDS Max chisels in an SDS Plus drill?
No — SDS Max bits are larger and won’t fit SDS Plus tools. The impact system is also different and requires more torque.
What’s the best chisel for tile removal?
A wide tile chisel or flat chisel is ideal — aim for shallow angles and consistent speed to prevent substrate damage.
Are SDS Max chisels universal?
Yes — as long as both the bit and tool are SDS Max spec (18mm shank), they’ll fit and function properly.
Do I need to lubricate SDS Max chisels?
Yes — use SDS shank grease periodically to reduce wear, avoid binding and maintain smooth insertion/removal.
