Metabo DH 330 Electric Bench Planer Thicknesser - 240V

A nice piece of kit. Does what it says it will, and the minimal assembly was easy. The 330mm planing width is useful for cabinet work - many good planers are less than this. The feed mechanism is strong, but don't exceed the specified maximum planing depth - you risk marking the work piece if it jams. Build quality is good and adjustments are smooth enough. The dust extractor assembly needed a safety washer on one of the bolts to really stay in place, but that's a minor thing and easily fixed. As well as fully adjustable planing depth with a firm lock lever, there is a handy depth adjustment stop that allows you to set planing depth at several pre-defined limits, making repetetive jobs easy. The unit comes with a manual and a separate booklet with exploded diagrams anda part number list - a professional touch that inspires confidence for maintenance and long term use.

I had been looking for a thicknesser for a while and the Metabo had great reviews on various Web sites and YouTube. It was around the price point that I was looking to pay as I am only a DIY wood worker, not a professional. There are many more expensive ones on the market with helical cutters etc but this one looked like it would fit my needs. It is very well put together and is mostly made of metal. It is pretty heavy weighing in at around 35 kg but still very manageable, it is also very loud. The dust extraction is pretty good so long a you take multiple thin passes rather than trying to 2 - 3 mil at a time. I have it connected to my Trend T30 and it manages just fine. I had to make an adaptor to fit the Metabo though as it does have a large extraction port. I have been flattening some 8 x 2' s and the Metabo has made a great job of them. I am very pleased with my purchase and it has saved me many hours of hand planing so far and I imagine it will last for many years to come. I did see it on another site for a few pounds cheaper but opted for ITS as they have served me well in the past. Ordering was easy and free delivery only took 2 days. Excellent.

Great piece of kit, dust extraction works well, lots of power, good accuracy, very noisy and very heavy, but f you can cope with this its a really good tool.

Have had a Dewalt thicknesser in the past, I was now in the market for a new one, opted for the Metabo … not disappointed so far… 3 out of 3 … build quality, power and great price…
